How do I know what size of a rough opening I need ?

(A)   Your rough opening will need to be larger than the size door you are wanting to use.  You will need to allow extra room for shimming in order to square the door unit. It is recommended that you add 2 1/2″ to the door height and  2″  to the door width.

hello,
I have a 29 1/4″ rough opening. After installing casing what would my door width be? I figured 27″. I need to be able to fit washer and dryer through door.
