Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your plant located?

The Designer Doors manufacturing plant and corporate offices are located in Burghill, Ohio, a small, mostly farming community, situated in the northeast part of the state. Our 27,000 square foot facility is twelve miles north of Interstate 80, twenty miles north of Youngstown, Ohio, which is considered to be the midway point between Cleveland and Pittsburgh, and centrally located to some of the best hardwood forests in the country.

How long have you been in the door business?

Designer Doors Inc. started production mid winter of 1984, initially supplying solid hardwood doors and other millwork to retail customers in the local area, and then later branching into supplying lumberyards and home improvement centers throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and West Virginia. We then began shifting sales to the internet in March of 1998, gradually moving almost all of our sales to the internet at the present time. At the same time expanding our product line to include an extensive line of door hardware. We now have the capabilities to receive orders and ship our doors or hardware to almost anywhere in the world. See all of our products in our building products directory.

What types of doors do you offer?

We specialize in manufacturing solid hardwood panel, interior and exterior doors. All of these doors are produced from start to finish, at our own plant, then sold directly to you, our valued customer. We only manufacture doors after they have been ordered, no inventory is kept. Doors can be purchased as doors only, these are called slabs, or they can be prehung on a jamb (frame). Any of our slab doors, wood or glass, can be used as a pocket door. Our interior doors are manufactured in many styles of raised or flat panel; matching panel designs can also be ordered for any of your bifold or multifold door needs. Cafe doors, similar to the swinging doors of the old western saloons, can also be purchased. Our exterior hardwood panel door applications are available in a raised panel only. We also offer french (glass) doors in a variety of styles in either beveled or standard flat glass, including special glass pantry and laundry doors, along with the traditional full, five, ten, or fifteen lite french doors. Exterior doors with insulated glass are also available. If you need custom sizes we can accommodate you in many of our wood or glass door designs.

Do you have any type of warranty on your doors?

Yes we do have a warranty, one of the simplest, no nonsense warranties in the door business. Our interior doors are warranted for ten years, exterior doors one year, and that warranty is transferable to whomever you might sell the property to within that time period. What does lead time mean and how long is it?

Lead time simply put is the time it takes from you placing an order to us manufacturing and loading your order on the truck for delivery. Our lead time is designated as FOB (From Our Business) and will vary at different times of the year depending on the amount and size of current orders. Occasionally events such as machinery breakdown or illness in the plant will cause a setback. Under normal circumstances our lead time is 2-4 weeks but has gotten as high as 6-8. Rest assured that we do everything we can to meet these lead times but they are estimated lead times. Your salesperson will discuss our current lead time with you. The freight company delivery time is not factored in to lead times. We use only reputable carriers whose destination arrival times are within reasonable limits.

The start of your lead time is based upon your salesperson's receipt of the following:
